Management through Cinema: Strategy, Leadership and Human Behaviour

Bachelor level | 3rd year (6th semester) | 3 ECTS | Elective course

How can we understand strategy, leadership, and business growth not only through textbooks but through powerful stories?  “Management Through Cinema” is an interdisciplinary elective course that explores key management concepts through the analysis of feature films. Instead of traditional case studies, students work with dynamic cinematic cases that present real-world business dilemmas, leadership conflicts, strategic decisions, and crisis situations.

Throughout the semester, we follow the full business life cycle – from startup creation to scaling – using carefully selected films as analytical material.

The course covers:

  • Startup formation
  • Entrepreneur motivation
  • Marketing and consumer insight
  • Team management and power relations
  • Organizational culture and growth
  • Competitive advantage and data-driven strategy
  • Business model scaling

Films serve as interactive case studies that allow students to analyze managerial behavior, decision-making logic, ethical tension, and strategic positioning in realistic and emotionally engaging contexts.

Selected Films

  • The Social Network
  • Chef
  • The Devil Wears Prada
  • The Intern (alternative: My Thoughts Are Silent)
  • What Women Want
  • Moneyball
  • The Founder

Each film represents a different stage of business development and a different management challenge. The course is interactive, combining short lectures, group debates, structured analysis, comparative case studies, and a collaborative group presentation where students analyze a selected film using management theories and strategic frameworks.

The course is open to all bachelor students (3rd year, 6th semester). No specific background in management is required – only curiosity about business, leadership, and how organizations work. A minimum English proficiency level of B1 is required to participate in discussions and complete written assignments.
