Participation of Master’s Students and a PhD Student of the Faculty of Economics in the Leonhard Euler International Programme “German-Ukrainian Dialogue in Economics”

The Leonhard Euler Programme “German-Ukrainian Dialogue in Economics” is an essential component of the bilateral educational and research cooperation between the Institute for East European Studies at Freie Universität Berlin and the Faculty of Economics of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv. The programme is implemented by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), funded by the Government of Germany, and aims to support the completion of research for master’s theses and PhD theses.
From 1 September to 31 December 2025, a PhD student and master’s students of the Faculty of Economics participated in the Leonhard Euler international programme “German-Ukrainian Dialogue in Economics.” The participants represented the following educational programmes:
- Economics (speciality 051 “Economics”) – Nadiia Mishchur (doctoral student of the Department of Analytical Economics and International Economics); academic supervisor: Professor, PhD in Economics, Dean of the Faculty of Economics Rostyslav Mykhailyshyn.
- Business Economics (speciality 051 “Economics”) – Daryna Tarar (group EKEм-21с); academic supervisor: Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory, PhD in Economics Tetiana Moriak.
- Consolidated Information (speciality 122 “Consolidated Information”) – Oksana Tereshchuk (group EKIm-21с); academic supervisor: Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems in Management, PhD in Economics Larysa Nozdrina.
The coordinator of the Leonhard Euler Programme at the Faculty of Economics of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv is Marianna Kichurchak, Professor, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Acting Head of the Department of Economy of Ukraine.
A key component of the programme was a one-month research stay of the participants from 1 to 30 November 2025 at the Institute for East European Studies at Freie Universität Berlin. On November 24 and 26, 2025, academic seminars were held during which participants presented the results of their research.
Nadiia Mishchur successfully presented the findings of her PhD dissertation titled “The Labour Market in the Context of Ukraine’s Post-War Economic Recovery”. The research examined the functioning of the labour market during wartime, proposed valuable methodological approaches to its assessment, and analysed the impact of internally displaced persons on key labour market indicators.
Daryna Tarar delivered a presentation based on her master’s thesis “Natural Monopolies in the Modern Market Economy”. The study included a comprehensive review of scholarly literature on the role of natural monopolies, the application of network modelling methods, and a comparative analysis of the activities of natural monopolies in Germany and Ukraine (including the operations of “Ukrzaliznytsia” and “Deutsche Bahn”).
Oksana Tereshchuk presented the results of her master’s thesis “The Use of Machine Learning Algorithms in the Economic Analysis of Production Systems” The research evaluated the effectiveness of modern machine learning algorithms – Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, XGBoost, and Black Box Models – for analysing and forecasting companies’ pricing strategies.
Participation in the Leonhard Euler Programme became an important step in the professional development of the master’s students and the PhD student, facilitated their integration into the international academic community, and created valuable opportunities for knowledge exchange within the academic environment of Germany.
Sincere congratulations are extend to the academic supervisors of the programme participants – Professor, PhD in Economics, Dean of the Faculty of Economics Rostyslav Mykhailyshyn; Associate Professor of the Department of Economic Theory, PhD in Economics Tetiana Moriak; and Associate Professor of the Department of Information Systems in Management, PhD in Economics Larysa Nozdrina – for their insightful recommendations, valuable guidance, and unwavering support, which contributed to the high academic achievements within the Leonhard Euler Programme “German-Ukrainian Dialogue in Economics”.

- Professor Marianna Kichurchak, for successful coordination, organization, and support of the participants’ activities throughout the programme;
- Dean of the Faculty of Economics Professor Rostyslav Mykhailyshyn, Vice-Dean for Research Vasyl Bunyak, and the staff of the Center for International Cooperation – for supporting this initiative and creating favourable conditions for student participation in DAAD international programmes.
The Leonhard Euler Programme has strengthened interdepartmental cooperation within the Faculty of Economics at Lviv University, confirmed the high academic competence of the PhD and master’s students, and demonstrated their readiness for active participation in international research initiatives.
