From June 10 to 14, 2024, the Freie Universität Berlin (Germany) hosted the International Staff Training Week 2024with the support of the EU Erasmus+ educational program and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). This year, the event gathered a record 150 participants from more than 50 universities in Europe, the USA, China, India, Africa, Israel, and others. As part of the international week, scientific and practical lectures were held on the future and international collaboration of universities, climate change, and the social responsibility of universities. It is worth highlighting the lecture-discussion by Jaco Cilliers, Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) in Ukraine, on the topic: “Ukraine’s Recovery in Times of War,” where important problems of the socio-economic state of Ukraine during the war and prospects for reconstruction were raised and discussed among international participants.

The program “Strategy and Leadership (not only) in International Relations: Defining purpose, creating impact, and maintaining motivation,” in which Marianna Kokhan participated, is specially designed for university professionals who work in international conditions. It aims to develop the following competencies: formulation of strategies that meet institutional goals; skills for effective management; application of complexity management tools; and management of personal adaptability. Specialists from the Free University of Berlin and colleagues from other universities shared their experiences and developed international cases of unique solutions for typical problems.

There was an opportunity to communicate and exchange professional experiences with representatives of foreign universities and develop new ideas for international cooperation and growth. In general, the event provided an opportunity not only to gain new knowledge but also to establish professional ties with colleagues from world universities, which will allow the introduction of new approaches and innovations.

Lviv University has a long and very successful cooperation with the Freie Universität Berlin, which continues to develop. Members of the Faculty of Economics successfully give guest lectures, present the results of scientific research, participate in scientific discussions, and students study on exchange under the Erasmus+ program.

This year, the Faculty of Economics also launched a project with the Institute of East European Studies of FreieUniversität Berlin on joint scientific supervision of master’s theses. This is a natural result of active bilateral cooperation and support. Such results inspire us and are sincerely grateful for the openness, interest, and cooperation.
